Who is Marie Bonet?

Marie Bonet is a Canadian writer and educator based in Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada.

A storyteller at heart, Marie was raised abroad and has called Canada home for more than thirty-five years. She brings a rich blend of cultures and lived experiences to everything she writes. A retired professor with a focus on medical physiology and neuroscience, she became known for teaching the way she writes—through story, emotion, and genuine human connection.

Writing has been part of her life since childhood, shaped by a lifelong fascination with the mind, the body, and human behaviour. She experiences the world in vivid mental images, a trait that fuels both her evocative use of language and her immersive worldbuilding. Marie writes crime, fantasy, and paranormal fiction layered with emotional depth, sensuality, and themes of identity, acceptance, and resilience.

Her novels are not issue-driven. They are empathy-driven — be it in merfolk fantasy, crime thrillers, the paranormal, or even in her memoirs and reflection pieces. Marie does not tell readers what to think. She invites them to spend time inside someone else's reality until they begin to understand it from the inside.

As a professor she taught students how the body works. As a novelist, she invites readers to experience what it feels like to inhabit another life—not by telling them what to think, but by allowing them to see, feel, and live another person's reality from within.

That same empathy extends beyond Marie's writing and into her own life and in the way she experiences the world. Spiritual, curious, and with a deep capacity to love, she has devoted much of her life to her two sons. Her older son now lives in San Francisco with his husband; her younger son, always with her, has developmental delays and autism, and is a constant reminder that compassion is fundamental to the soul, joy can be found in the most subtle of smiles, and resilience is a true force of nature.
